In order to become a classic, a style must do more than endure years of fickle fashion. It must relate somehow to the changes in taste, in attitude and in lifestyle that make up each design movement, and yet still remain true to its original aesthetic roots. Some names achieve this effortlessly. Others, like Thomas Chippendale, have evolved almost so completely, many mistake his updated classics as contemporary expressions of design. Using his characteristic diagonal slat motif, our Chippendale Bed is every bit as contemporary as an Asian-influenced platform bed. Yet ours draws on the centuries old cabinetmaker's vision, perfectly updated for today. By layering angle on angle with each individual cross-brace, the head- and footboards play with light, space and geometry in a fresh and engaging way. Careful handfinishing brings out the natural luster of the wood frame.
